Medical Administrative Assistant Program (formerly Health Information Technologies)

If you think you would like working in healthcare, but not sure you would like direct patient contact, the field of Health Information Technology is for you. Students learn the supportive roles needed to make a medical facility work. After the classroom component is completed, students get to apply their knowledge within actual healthcare facilities. With this knowledge students are competent to work in areas such as Medical Records, Medical Office Assistant, or within the Billing/Coding department.

ADVANCED MEDICAL  BILLING AND CODING

Cost: $225.00

 

Advanced Medical Billing and Coding continues where Health Information Technologies left off.  This class details Medical Office Billing and Coding procedures through Delmar’s “Understanding Health Insurance: Complete Online Course”

 

This format is designed as an INDEPENDENT STUDY course.  Class times are determined by you.  Availability to this site is limited to 20 weeks.  Upon successful completion of all course modules, students will receive a Certificate of Completion 

 

Module 1: Health Insurance Specialist--Roles and Responsibilities; Module 2: Introduction to Health Insurance; Module 3: Managed Health Care; Module 4: Life Cycle of an Insurance Claim; Module 5: Legal and Regulatory Considerations; Module 6: ICD-9-CM Coding; Module 7: CPT Coding; Module 8: HCPCS Coding System; Module 9: CMA Reimbursement Issues; Module 10: Coding from Source Documents; Module 11: Essential CMS-1500 Claim Form Instructions; Module 12: Filing Commercial Claims; Module 13: Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans; Module 14: Medicare; Module 15: Medicaid; Module 16: Tricare; Module 17: Worker's Compensation 

 

Modules contain clear learning objectives, pages of background information, guided practice exercises, and competency tests.  Students have the opportunity to create simulated office billing submissions through various case studies.

 

Since this is an independent study course, students must have completed Health Information Technologies or show documented Medical Office experience.
